1401 Hikona cho Yonago, Tottori
Awashima is very close from Waterfowl Park and is an independent hill on 38m above sea level. Arriving at this place and clim up the 187 stairs, you will find Awashima shrine. There is a belief in a mountain dwelling of God from ancient times and it was saying that this was named after a Hikona from ancient records of the culture and geography of this province.
Though it currently continued from land, it was small Island floating in Nakaumi.
Aoshima no Akizuki (Autmun moon) is well known beauty spot and it reflects the sunset glow at Nakaumi has a special flavor.

「In the past, at the fishermen’s meeting, some unusual food was served. No one touched it, however, a daughter of one of the fisherman tried. It was flesh of mermaid that was said to become immortal.
The remained unchanged 18years young lady turned into a nun and was waiting for life to be over without eating. When her life finally deceased, she was eight hundred years of her age, so the mountain was enshrined as guardian of survival and longevity.
