2377 Odaka Yonago, Tottori 0859-39-3701
When you are taking on right slope at entrance to Daisen, you will find Odaka archaeological site in the huge space that Yumigahama and Sea of Japan are spreading infront.
Muromachi period, Odaka castle was center of active military among west Hoki area.
Sengoku (Warring States) period, though this castle was originally for Yukimatsu clan, Amago clan Mitsurin Yoshita took over it and become a lord. After that, Morishige Sugihara, who was served as a retainer to the Mori clan, seized power and moved to here.
It is well known story that Shikanosuke Yamanaka, was a samurai of the period and who served as a retainer to the Amako clan, said ‘Give us the extreme difficulty’ and became a prisoner of war.
He pretended to go to toilet several time and escaped from the prison camp. Odaka castle was abandoned due to replacement for Yonago caslte, but the lord Kazutada stayed at Odaka until Yonago castle has completed.
Currently, these areas including the castle ruin transformed to another facilities such as Odaka castle site plum park, Cherry Park, restored Samurai Yashiki, Japanese garden, Free space, gymnastic hall, tennis court, gateball park, and lodging.Those are in good condition and for public to use.
Especially, beauty flower of Japanese plum are good reputation.
People come to visit from far just to see those flowers in spring.
The site is designated as cultural property of Yonago city. The hornor memory of the castle still remains.
